I remember driving one of these when new, and it was the only other hot hatch of that time that I considered a viable alternative to the GTI I drove at the time. I’ve always admired that car, even in its basic non-turbo version, which is more than I can say for most cars in the malaise era. I did have a friend that had a silver one with the twin-stick transmission that we used to cruise around in, made even more fun by the massive air horns off of a semi truck hidden under the hood.

I drove a 1983 Colt with the transaxle for about 6 months before it finished rusting away, and it was a fun little car. That said I don’t think I’d pay that much money for one that a Colt enthusiast is trying to get rid of because it’s too much of a headache.
It’s like Miss Mercedes getting rid of a Smart car, or David Tracy letting go of a Jeep - Exactly what sort of problems would make someone like that willing to part with one of their loves?

If it was local and half the price, yeah. Interesting car for sure.

The sad thing is, I know exactly what’s wrong with this one. Exactly.
And it’s got a 4G32T with the twin-stick, so it’s not actually hard to find parts for.
Problem is, this one’s in bad shape and the part it needs is hard to come by. It’s missing the bumpers completely here, among with some other parts. The dials aren’t working because the ECI unit’s on the way out. And it uses the non-flashable, early square one. (Speedo issue is the dumbass hooked the cable up wrong. It’s gear-driven off the transmission.)
I know it’s the ECI because the coolant gauge is direct drive off the CTS and speedo is gear driven. Everything else is routed through the ECI including tach feed.

That’s an ‘84 (4th gen). ‘85 was the first year of the 5th gen.
Last year of that generation with the twin-stick, first year with the turbo. Unicorn for sure, not sure it’s worth much.
4th gen (top) 5th gen (bottom)
I had a ‘84 turbo, and I think I paid
$3500 (Asking price in the CL ad)
for it back in 1987
. AMA
